Depending on the market, turkey processors can opt for waterbath stunning or Controlled Atmosphere Stunning (CAS). Both methods comply with animal welfare regulations applicable in different countries and meet virtually all customer demands in markets with specific cultural and religious requirements.

Electrical stunning

JBT Marel's electrical water bath stunners for turkeys are extremely reliable and ensure an optimum result. The continuously variable AC voltage of the electrical stunner is designed to achieve optimum stunning efficiency while safeguarding product quality. It allows the unit to be fine-tuned to different throughputs and circumstances, always resulting in the best balance between stunning efficiency and meat quality.

JBT Marel offers two types of electrical stunners: the HDII heavy duty Water Bath Stunner and the EU Water Bath Stunner with movable doors and recording of parameters, fully compliant with EU Regulation 1099/2009.

CAS stunning

Multiphase Controlled Atmosphere Stunning (CAS) favors perfect presentation of valuable turkey products such as fillets. CAS stunning is humane and causes virtually no damage to the live turkey. Hang-on operatives benefit too as they now shackle stunned birds, which no longer move.

Providing the same anesthetization environment to every turkey

Birds are stunned irreversibly in a gentle process. During the process, precise atmosphere control is essential due to welfare regulations. Windows allow birds to be observed as they are being stunned.

Turkeys are conveyed through the system at the proper speed to provide the same stunning environment to every single turkey. This first-in-first-out principle ensures a constant dwell time, regardless of weight or loading density during transport.
