Dissolved air flotation (DAF) unit

The JBT Marel DAF units (Dafinci) ensure optimal separation of the various pollution fractions and reduction of sludge volumes.

In the Dafinci dissolved air flotation (DAF) units from JBT Marel suspended solids are optimally recovered by dissolved air flotation with the help of a micro aeration system.  With the micro aeration system, bubbles attach themselves to the suspended solids, which then rapidly float to the surface. 

The floating sludge in the Dafinci DAF unit is removed by means of a scraper system. The discharge of sediment can be done by applying an integrated transport auger to the system.

The DAF units are modular and are made to fit specific customer and system requirements.

The smallest DAF unit is: L 2900 mm x W 1400 mm x H 1350 mm.

The DAF unit can be made of different material – e.g. stainless steel 304, stainless steel 316 or concrete, depending on the wastewater characteristics.

DAF units in pre-treatment systems

Pre-treatment of heavily polluted wastewater is of great importance because of the positive impact on the performance of the total system.

The pre-treatment process of getting rid of solids (pollution load) needs to be conducted in the most efficient way to reduce costs of down-steam water treatment systems. With the DAF system it is possible to reduce the pollution load of up to 90%.  This means that the subsequent steps of the biological treatment can also be reduced substantially.

In pre-treatment the wastewater is (often) dosed with a coagulant and/or a flocculant to gather and form the particles into bigger clusters for quicker float to the surface.

DAF units in biological treatment systems

Used in aerobic and anaerobic processes the DAF units are used to separate the biological sludge from the water. The treated water can be discharged to further treatment stages or be discharged when fitting to the limits.
