JBT Marel Chopper/Blender SE with intake chute and 80-gallon processing tank.

Information

The JBT Marel Chopper/Blender SE processes frozen ingredients into a pumpable slurry containing small frozen particles. Its 80-gallon tank is designed for processors with smaller production needs, allowing them to prepare frozen product for the next processing step without waiting for it to thaw completely.

Applications include frozen juice concentrates, single-strength and not-from-concentrate (NFC) fruit juices, pulp, fruit and vegetable purées, beverage bases, and broth or bone broth.

The SE can be configured with loading, heating, cleaning and discharge equipment to suit your process. We can help evaluate your product, container format, required capacity and available space to determine whether the SE fits your current needs and planned growth.

Specifications

  • Throughput: Standard quoted capacity of 4 drums per hour. Actual throughput depends on product characteristics, temperature, preparation, feeding and downstream capacity.
  • Tank capacity: 80 US gallons (303 litres)
  • Construction: Stainless steel with a conical tank bottom for drainage
  • Heating: Hot-water jackets around the lower tank and tank bottom, with a separate jacket beneath the intake chute
  • Container size: Ideal for small pales and blocks, but can handle up to 55 US gallons (208 litres), subject to loading arrangement

Accessories

Clean-in-place components
An optional hopper lid and cleaning sprays distribute cleaning solution inside the machine. Confirm the required cleaning solution supply and connections for your installation.

Hot-water set
A separate hot-water set supplies the heating jackets when the plant’s existing hot-water system cannot meet the process requirements. Selection depends on available utilities and the required heating duty.

Discharge pump
A positive-displacement pump transfers slurry to the next processing step. Pump selection depends on the product, required flow and transfer piping.

Service

Keep your frozen ingredient processing operation running reliably with planned maintenance, spare parts and technical support for your Chopper/Blender SE. Regular inspections and timely replacement of worn components help reduce unplanned downtime and maintain a dependable supply to your next processing step.

FAQ

How does the SE differ from the larger Chopper/Blender?

The SE has an 80-gallon tank and is intended for lower production volumes. The larger standalone Chopper/Blender has a 300-gallon tank and supports higher throughput. Both process frozen ingredients into pumpable slurry. Selection should account for your required capacity, loading method, downstream process and expected growth.

Can the SE process frozen drums and pails?

The SE is designed to process frozen product supplied in drums and pails. The loading arrangement must suit the container size, weight and working height. JBT Marel can help define appropriate handling equipment and access for your installation.

Does the SE fully thaw frozen product?

The SE produces a pumpable slurry that still contains frozen material. Its hot-water jackets help product flow through the machine. If your next processing step requires fully liquid product, additional heating can be provided through a suitably selected downstream heat exchanger.

How should frozen drums be prepared?

The product needs to thaw slightly around the edges so the frozen block can slide out of the drum. Preparation time depends on the product, container and thawing conditions. Confirm drum handling and liner removal procedures for your application before operation.

Can the SE use our existing hot-water supply?

It can connect to a suitable plant hot-water supply. Available temperature, pressure and flow must meet the needs of the selected configuration and production rate. If the existing supply is insufficient, a separate hot-water set can be specified.

Are a pump and CIP system included?

A discharge pump and clean-in-place (CIP) components are not included in the base SE configuration. They can be specified for your project. Your quotation should identify the supplied equipment, site connections and any additional loading, heating or control requirements.

Can the SE process IQF fruit?

Individually quick frozen (IQF) fruit requires an application review. Equipment modifications and process adjustments may be needed, depending on the material, desired output and capacity. Contact us to evaluate whether the SE or another configuration is suitable.
