The new EU F Gas Regulation will be implemented from 1 January 2025 and will have an impact on manufacturers and distributors operating ice makers running with F gases. From that date MAJA part of Marel will not be able to manufacture and/or ship certain ice machines within Europe and anywhere else in the world.
How will the new F-Gas Regulation affect my business and my customers
20 Jun 2024
As a valued MAJA ice machine distributor, you are allowed to purchase any MAJA flake and nugget ice machines until 31 December 2024 and to sell them until 31 December 2025. From 1 January 2026, you will not be authorized to sell ice machines within the European Union using fluorinated gases (F Gases) as refrigerant.
Your customers and end users will not be directly impacted. They will still be authorized to use fluorinated gases (F gases) ice machines although they may see an increase in maintenance costs since the availability of F gases is expected to decrease.
Which MAJA ice makers are affected?
As of 1 January 2025, MAJA part of Marel will no longer ship and sell the following models:
- MAJA SAH 85 R449A flake ice machine
- MAJA SAH 170 R449A flake ice machine
- MAJA SAH 250 R449A flake ice machine
- MAJA SAH 500 R449A flake ice machine
- MAJA SAH 800 R449A flake ice machine
- MAJA SAH 1500 R449A flake ice machine
- MAJA SAH 3000 R449A flake ice machine
- NAS/NAC 970 R452A nugget ice machine
Which alternative ice machines will be available?
MAJA part of Marel will continue to offer the following innovative flake ice machines, which cover a wide range of applications and volumes:
- SAH 85 EcoPro
- SAH 170 EcoPro
- MAJA RVH models
- Condensing unit LT for RVH models
- Condensing unit LT for FMH models
- SAH 250 EcoPro
- SAH 400 EcoPro
Discover the EcoPro range: Pioneering sustainability in flake ice production
The MAJA SAH 85 EcoPro and SAH 170 EcoPro take a leap forward in sustainable refrigeration by utilizing the natural refrigerant propane R290 (GWP 3). Propane R290 distinguishes itself by having almost zero impact on the greenhouse effect, hence complying with the new EU F Gas Regulation.
With an output of 85–170 kg/24 h, both models are the ideal entry level machines for lower volume flake ice requirements.
RVH series: High volume flake ice production
The RVH series is not affected by the new EU F Gas Regulation and is therefore compliant.
The machines with an output of up to 12,000 kg/24 h will continue to be sold both as a split version and for connection to a combined refrigeration system.
By using the natural refrigerants NH₃ and CO₂, a maximum output of between 14,000 and 15,200 kg/24 h is possible.
New launch from autumn 2024 – The SAH 250 and 400 EcoPro
Later this year, MAJA part of Marel will expand its environmentally friendly range by launching two new compact flake ice machines with an output of 250 and 400 kg/24 h.
Both models will use propane as the refrigerant, which has virtually no influence on the greenhouse effect and therefore complies with the new EU F Gas Regulation.
MAJA nugget ice portfolio
The following MAJA nugget ice makers work with propane hence will not be affected by the new EU F Gas Regulation:
- NAS/NAC 175 L
- NAS/NAC 300 L
- NAS/NAC 530 L
