IRIS DF early vision grading

Information

IRIS, the Intelligent Reporting, Inspection and Selection system, assesses whole products and the seven anatomic portions at multiple locations in the processing plant.

There are many advantages to installing the IRIS DF visual grading system directly after defeathering. Thanks to this early quality check, defects are more easily detectable, and there’s more time to plan production efficiently.

A check of flock quality at a very early stage

An IRIS DF installed in the defeathering line is an invaluable tool that gives plant management full information on the quality of product entering and leaving the primary process. The quality of the supplied flock can be determined at a very early stage.

Veterinary aid

The IRIS DF is also useful for assisting veterinary inspection. As the system identifies color and shape, it will recognize products that are too small or damaged in some way, and products that have not bled out. These can then be released automatically at the end of the killing line. In addition, broken wings, skinned products and remaining feathers can also be detected at an early stage.

Improved detection

In the defeathering line, the IRIS DF benefits from improved product separation and presentation. That’s because the product is resilient in this processing phase and spreads out more easily. Wing defects (red wingtips, remaining feathers, etc.) become more noticeable, and detection of torn skin and bruises improves.

Not estimates, but facts

Early product assessment helps processors to adjust supply to demand. Already having insight into the quality of the flocks and products when they spend about two and a half hours in the air-chilled tunnel (about 30,000 products!), processors can use the extra time for accurate planning. Early decisions are no longer based on estimates but on facts, and every product will be turned into its most profitable form.

If required, the IRIS DF system can be combined with another IRIS system in the distribution or cut-up stage. This will provide the best assessment and allocation; as the skin is no longer wet and shiny, better evaluation of aspects such as epidermis quality is possible.
