At JBT Marel, efficiency is a core driver of all we do, from designing customer solutions to improving the processes to manufacture them. We consistently look for ways to optimize operations, aiming to minimize our environmental impact while strengthening our business resilience. This includes managing the energy and water we use, as well as turning our waste into value by managing it responsibly.

Greenhouse gas emissions

At JBT Marel, we actively work to identify opportunities to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across our facilities and throughout our value chain. Our initiatives include installing timers on equipment to prevent unnecessary energy use and improving overall energy efficiency through effective use of energy management systems.

JBT Marel also has a number of electrified corporate vehicles in our fleet and has installed electric vehicle charging infrastructure at select locations. Where feasible, we replace internal combustion engine forklifts with electric-powered models or automated guided vehicles. We also have a number of sites around the world generating solar energy to support our operations. Where possible, we use renewable energy to power and heat our facilities.

Our value chain impact 

JBT Marel is dedicated to understanding and managing its greenhouse gas (GHG) Scope 3 emissions. A significant portion of our Scope 3 emissions come from purchased goods and services, as well as the use of sold products. To better identify opportunities for GHG reduction, we track and analyze our Scope 3 emissions by material, suppliers, and expenditure. We have concentrated Scope 3 reductions on product-generated emissions and supplier engagement to foster sustainability initiatives.  

Waste management and reduction 

Waste is a by-product of our manufacturing and operations at JBT Marel. We have invested in strategies to responsibly reduce overall waste, manage generated waste, and increase recycling.

Sites share best practices and lessons learned from various waste reduction efforts monthly. Company leadership highlights the impact of these initiatives to encourage continued and enhanced participation across our workforce. Thereby turning waste into value.

Water conservation and stewardship

JBT Marel operates with a commitment to responsible water use. That includes conserving water, complying with water disposal regulations, and providing wastewater treatment solutions for customers.

JBT Marel collects data on water withdrawals and internal wastewater treatment to establish benchmarks for water use and identify areas for improvements. We leverage water-efficient technologies such as sustainable deburring finishing machines, low-flow fixtures, and leak detection systems to help reduce overall withdrawal. Wherever possible, we maximize water reuse and recycling through initiatives such as managing and collecting/treating rainwater and stormwater runoff. These efforts are part of our commitment to sustainable water management.
